Libraries and Local News

Coal Cracker was featured in the June issue of American Libraries Magazine, the official publication of the American Library Association, along with the Community Reporting Alliance and our sister publications Manor Ink, of Livingston Manor, NY and the Ferguson Phoenix, of Ferguson, Missouri.

The article focused on how libraries are redefining their roles by partnering with media and nonprofits to support coverage of community news.

Coal Cracker reporters Serena Bennett and Amber Lawrence contributed comments about the articles they have written. Advisors Peg Grigalonis and Krista Gromalski discussed Coal Cracker’s growth and its relationship with the Mahanoy City Public Library, which allows our staff to hold editorial meetings on its second floor.
