The seventh Annual Senator Rhoades Youth Track and Field Games were held at Mahanoy Area Alumni Stadium on May 16. Well over 120 children from kindergarten to eighth grade participated. The games are sponsored by the James J. and Mary Edith Rhoades Foundation and the Mahanoy Area Track and Field Boosters.

This year’s recipient of the William “Buck” Jones FOR THE KIDS Award was Nancy Brylewsky, Mahanoy Area teacher, pictured above with Jim Rhoades, Jr. and Mary Edith Rhoades. The award is given annually to a person with a lifetime dedicated to the well being of the children of the Mahanoy Area. Previous winners are: 2009, William “Buck” Jones; 2010, John Murtin; 2011, Christine Evancho; 2012, Dorothy “Dot” Demmer; 2013, Dave Holmes; and 2014, Robert “Eggy” Killian.
