Spartans Support Parkland Families
As their own high school was under threat of an attack, some local students organized a t-shirt fundraiser to help families of the victims of the Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
On February 24, the North Schuylkill School District reported on its website that officials had become aware of “a social media post warning of an attack” at the high school. An investigation by law enforcement determined that the threat was not credible, and the Butler Township Police Department arrested three juveniles in relation to the threats.
During this same time fame, Ari Wolfe, of Ringtown, a Junior at North Schuylkill High School, home of the Spartans, proposed the idea of creating a spirit shirt for his school’s District 11 basketball playoff games in late February.
His idea became a reality with the help of faculty and fellow students. Several thousand shirts were sold, and proceeds were donated to the Parkland victim’s families.
