Holiday Cookies with a Twist
By Taylor Walsh
With the holidays just around the corner, everyone will soon be searching for the perfect cookie recipes. Just like last year, I will be making one of my favorite types of cookies: candy cane twist cookies! They are the perfect cookie to eat and have fun with while making them. Plus, they are super easy!
Ingredients
½ cup of butter 1 egg
½ cup shortening 1 ½ teaspoons almond extract
1 cup of confectioner’s sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ½ cups sifted all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon red food coloring
First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. While waiting for your oven to heat, mix the shortening and butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla and almond extracts together in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix salt and flour and then add to the other mix. Make sure to divide your dough in half. Next, blend the red food coloring into one of your pieces of dough. Then, roll each piece through flour into about four-inch strips. Then, take each color of your dough and place them together and lightly roll them into the shape of a candy cane. When your dough looks twisted enough, bake in your oven for nine to 11 minutes. Now you have your fun, Christmas-themed cookies all done!
